Btw, I already wanted to ask you and Brigitte this for a very long time: what do you think of the German voice overs with English/American movies, shows etc? I remember watching RTL+ when I was young, cause they aired Beverly Hills, Melrose Place and ? (can't remember the name  ) in one evening, but those voice overs really got on my nerves!!! And was it my imagination or did they use the same voices for both BH and MP?  |

Usually foreign actors get dubbed by the same person. Like Julia Roberts is always dubbed by the same german speaker for instance.
Usually they don't use speakers twice in popular series, coz it would be pretty obvious otherwise. I rather think they just sounded similar.

I don't like subtitles. I rather have the movie dubbed or in original language. Well as long as it's in English. I used to watch a lot hongkong movies formerly. I was quite happy about the english subtitles there. ;D
Btw in Holland, don't you guys have any dubbing?

No, never, only subtitles. Btw, I almost never read them, but for young kids it's a perfect way to learn to speak/understand English.

I love subtitles, I think they help on most occasions.  Could you think of any particular one when they wouldn't be helpful? |

In Germany 99 % of the movies and series are dubbed. I'm used to it and find it rather odd having to read subtitles. Once I watched a hollywood movie dubbed in Italian. Now that's funny. They talk so fast! ;D |

I just hate dubbed movies but must say sometimes I *am* grateful for it cause I don't always get 100 % of all dialogues of the English movies, etc. I can see some dutch programmes though and noticed you have always subtitles which I would prefer. Well, you cannot have it all I guess.

How do you handle cinemas then, Brigitte? I know there are foreign language cinemas, but most of them are tiny theaters with a screen not much bigger than your own tv. |

I have one just around the corner that I like a lot. And the screen is not sooooo tiny. But generally I do go to normal theatres. I have gotten used to the dubbed movies and can cope with it. I just hate it if my fave actors have different voices all the time. For instance Ralph Fiennes has now voice No. 3 in the movies. And this annoying!  |
