The problem with it is that it might make some background noise. Wireless LAN is not only wireless but quiet as well!

LAN = Local Area Network You can restrict the network to certain MAC-adresses (every computer has an individual one) and you can set a password and you can encrypt everything. First two things prevent others from using your network, the latter prevents others from stealing/reading your data. @alessia: Sorry to hear that.
