Hi!
As some of you may know, I study linguistics at Groningen University. Now I have to do loads of small investigations, and for one of those I need some help of native English speakers. So if you could help me out, then please!
The situation is as follows: Suppose you want to explain to someone who does not understand English very well what the verb 'roll' means and you want to give some example sentences to illustrate the meaning; to what extent do you think the following sentences are suitable? Rate the sentences like this:
4 = an excellent example 3 = a good example 2 = a somewhat poor example 1 = very poor example
1. The ball rolled down the hill. 2. The boy rolled the ball across the room. 3. The dog was rolling in the mud. 4. Her eyes rolled. 5. He rolled onto his back. 6. He buys packs of cigarettes, but I always roll my own. 7. Roll the pastry on a floured surface. 8. Roll the meat in the breadcrumbs. 9. He’s got a rolling ‘r’. 10. She rolled on the floor from laughing. 11. The thieve rolled the drunkard. 12. The anonymous tip set the ball rolling. 13. The thunders rolls.
Of course it's a matter of opinion, so there are no good or false answers! Thanks a lot for helping!
x Alma

Yes, thank you very much!! I almost got desperate, because the deadline for handing in my research paper is Friday, and I hadn't had any responses so far. So I'm really really grateful

Ill pass it on to my friend who lives down the street who is from London if you'd like, and I can post her answers for her? Would you be ok with that?

Ooh, I would be very ok with that, BUT... It's just that I already did my calculations... So thanks, but no thanks
