Thanks if you've taken time to read this post all the way through! Thanks, Alison, for sharing this personal information. I know what you mean about the associations of Queen's music with your mother's illness. When my Dad died over 2 years ago I didn't listen ot any Queen records for months so that this wouldn't happen to me. I was quite successful I guess cause I can again enjoy the music without connecting it with my Dad's passing.

I've seen a letter before on Brian's site that mentioned something similar - I think it took 10 years for someone who'd lost their child and there was an association with at least one Queen song. People are all different so we all react differently to traumas like this. However, there are two major factors in my case which point to the reason why it took 25 years to sort it all out: my age at the time, and the fact that it was the 70s and the way these things were handled was just AWFUL. Drawing parallels between my mother and Freddie has also been helpful. There was a similarity in age and in the type of illness. And I guess I might even have come to associate Freddie's voice with my mum over the years because of those teen memories. What's made THIS year seminal for me has been the way these last pieces of the jigsaw puzzle have found a place - and that's happened through the tour, especially the fact that there was this link in the location so I knew this collaboration with Paul must be right - even without Brian and Roger saying so!!! At the same time, I could very much see where the two of them were coming from in not intending to replace Freddie etc. and this found expression in those letters.

Love Paul too, I hope to hear more of him AND Queen!!! @ Allison: so sorry to hear about your mum passing away at such a young age... I'm glad you learned to enjoy listening to Queen again without getting sad... Thanks, Tiger, Well it WAS a LONG time ago and I've managed to have an interesting life and I've a lovely daughter. Also I'm not a melancholy person and I don't live in the past. You take the baton and run with life when you're young! But looking back I also felt out on my own over the years, especially as my relationship with the other remaining family members has not been easy at all. But what's happened recently is that I've come to view the associations with Queen's music and that horrendous time much more positively - I can see that there's been this parallel story going on with Queen after losing Freddie and coming back - as I once wrote elsewhere about the tour: 'There's more than one phoenix rising here for me!'. That sums it up really! Well my site has a load more about this, but a lot of amusing and informative things as well, and I keep building on it, so do pay a visit when you're not posting here!!!
